Miss April took a chance and her career took off

When the lights go out in Georgia, Giuliana Marino is there to make sure you don't grow thirsty. The 23-year-old special-events coordinator is often out on the town in her home of Atlanta, promoting her company's wines and spirits. "If there's anything going on in Georgia with our liquor brands- whether it's Usher's birthday party or whatever- I'm kind of the go-to person," Giuliana says. It's not hard to understand why she gravitated to this line of work. Giuliana is direct and approachable as well as beautiful, an intoxicating Southern belle who lacks a Southern accent. "My family comes from Ohio, which is probably why I didn't pick up the accent," she explains. The Buckeye descendant remains tight with her family. "I have three brothers, and one of them is my twin. You'd think I would have been a tomboy, but I've always been feminine and girlie. I did get a thicker skin from having all those boys in the house. I'm not easily offended. I'm the first one to laugh at myself."

Miss Marino didn't have much modeling experience before sending her pictures to Playboy, but she did pose for a shock jock's billboard in Atlanta. "The ad was a satire that read 'Morning Domination'," she says with more than a flash of naughtiness in her eye. "I wore a black leather dress and had a whip. Monica Leigh was in the shoot too. I wasn't dealing with professional photographers, so I had to walk wrapped in a station banner past all these sales reps to do the shoot in a conference room." That didn't make her feel self conscious, nor does posing nude. Indeed, Giuliana Marino is accustomed to being looked at. "I cannot go into a Wal-Mart without getting hit on," she says. "I'll look so bad- yoga pants, no makeup, straight from the gym- and guys will follow me around and try to talk to me."

Giuliana doesn't think this is an altogether bad thing. "I'm definitely not a first-move kind of girl. I like it when a guy has the nerve to ask a girl out on a date instead of dropping a cheesy line. Still, the Wal-Mart thing weirds me out." So what is her type? "I like rugged guys. I don't like dating men prettier than I am or men who take longer to get ready than I do. I dated this football player who was metrosexual and loved shoes and shopping- there's something going on there. My friends tease me and say, 'You just like these macho, meathead guys.' Every time some big guy walks by, they say, 'There's your new boyfriend, Giuliana.' I can't help it."

Since her job requires her to be an enthusiastic socializer, Giuliana Marino cherishes low-key nights at home with her roommate, two cats and the latest biography. And while she's game for exciting opportunities that may come her way, she won't soon be leaving on that midnight train from Georgia. "I like Atlanta and would not drop everything to move to L.A.," she says with a smile. "I'm not going to roll the dice and just move somewhere to see what happens."

Giuliana was an outdoorsy child, playing in the woods with her brothers and sisters every chance she got. She started gymnastics at the age of six, and she continued with it for most of her childhood. At the age of ten, her parents divorced and she went to live with her mother in Vermont for a while. But she ended up moving back to Atlanta to finish high school. "I was really happy to come back to Atlanta mostly because of my friend Jennifer Pershing. She was the first girl I ever fooled around with and when I got back, we picked up right where we left off," says Giuliana with a devilish grin.

In high school Giuliana Marino enjoyed playing softball and even gave cheerleading a try to overcome her shyness. "I hung out with honor students like Sarah Elizabeth to keep out of trouble," she says. "I surrounded myself with positive things because I really didn't enjoy school." Miss Marino went to college at Cal State, where she studied psychology before quitting school to become an adult model. "I'm going to finish school when my modeling career is over," she says. "When I was in college I wasn't happy at all. There was just something missing. I didn't want to do the typical go to college, get a 40-hour-a-week job and have a family thing right away. I just felt the need to take off my clothes."

After high school, Giuliana Marino worked as a stripper with her childhood friend Jayde Nicole. The two spent more time fooling around with each other than working, so they soon were fired. To help make ends meet, Giuliana tried her luck at a local swimsuit contest. She won the contest and ended up going back again and again. The competitions helped Miss Marino's confidence and self-esteem, and of course, she loved the attention.

As the story goes, one night she was hanging out in the famous Playboy Mansion Grotto when Lindsay Wagner walked in. "I couldn't believe my eyes," says Giuliana. "She was the most beautiful woman I've ever seen". The two hotties struck up a conversation. After a few drinks, Giuliana got the nerve up to kiss Lindsay. What transpired is now part of Playboy legend. The two got it on right there in The Grotto in front of everyone! No one can say that Giuliana Marino is inhibited, that's for sure!

Not long ago, Giuliana was asked by fellow Playmate Sandra Nilsson to join the Playboy X-treme Team. She jumped at the chance, and has been an major part of the team ever since. Miss Marino competed in the Eco-Challenge in Germany in 2006, and did very well for her team, coming in second place in the "Ultimate Bimbo Challenge".

Giuliana continues to serve as a member of the X-treme Team and has become one of the most popular former nude Playmates around.
